As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, we spoke to Dr Toyosi Adeniji, National First5 Chair, about her thoughts on this year’s theme 'Reclaiming Narratives' and what it means to her.
"Reclaiming our narratives is essential to building a future that honours the past while driving progress. For Black History Month, we celebrate the power of our voices, our stories, and our resilience. In healthcare, we have the opportunity to reshape systems of care that have historically marginalised Black communities.
As unconventional as this might sound, I would love to push things a bit further and change the focus from reclaiming our narratives to actually changing, redefining and embodying what the narrative should be.
Through advocacy, and cultural understanding, we can create spaces where people are heard. Together, we can build a legacy of health and empowerment for future generations. Let’s continue rewriting the story, one where every voice matters."
