Opened just in time for Día de los Muertos and spooky season,
memento.mori.cafe is a plant-based, goth-themed cafe in Northwest Portland.
The cafe’s name translates to “remember you must die” in Latin, and everything on the menu is titled accordingly. Choose from a list of “goth-a-chinos” like the “Pushing Daisies,” an iced chocolate chip cookie frappe, or a “Crypt Keeper,” a caramel white chocolate hazelnut latte.
“I’ve always been into dark gothic things; I love everything black,” said Correna Hernandez, who’s been collecting items year round to decorate the shop. On display were a skull and cross bones tic-tac-toe game, a black ceramic flower vase shaped like a human heart and and a gallery wall with images of skulls and various shadowy figures.
