The Rockland County cross county championships, held Tuesday, Oct. 29, was a good one for North Rockland teammates Claudel Chery and Ryan Tuohy. The two juniors finished, as they did two years earlier, with Chery first and Tuohy second, after they put distance between themselves and third-place finisher Jack Bowman of Suffern, who ran with them for probably four-fifths of the race. Meanwhile, Gaby Castro turned her self-doubt and questions of her own past performance into success. Castro, a North Rockland junior, caught and passed race leader Bridget Dunn of Tappan Zee with less than a quarter mile to go to win the Rockland County girls cross-country championship. Castro clocked 18:23.3 and Dunn 18:28.7.
