Croagh Patrick came to one author’s mind when writing the closing pages of their #ManBooker2017 longlisted novel…who could it be? ‘At a particular turn in the road from Westport to Louisburgh the conical shape of Croagh Patrick comes into view. I have been travelling this road since I was a child but never really saw it until it presented itself so clearly to my mind’s eye in the closing pages of my novel. That mountain is our sacred peak and also the focal point of the whole area in which so much of my work is set. I climbed it many times as a young lad but not so often in latter years….
