#ManBooker2017 longlisted author returns to this view in the winter to write? ‘I’ve been writing fiction at my family’s home in Karachi since I was eleven years old and, though I now live in London and only return to Karachi for a month or two in the winter, it’s still a place where I'm able to work with far greater concentration that my flat in London. What has changed over the years is the location in which I write - I can point to different rooms and alcoves in which everything from schoolday stories to the first few of my published novels were written. But a few years ago I discovered the pleasures of sitting outdoors, on the verandah, to work. My chair and desk are garden furniture. My companions are the neighbourhood cats. When I look up from the screen, this is what I see.’
