Is this your favorite Porsche from the 1990s?
The Porsche 911 GT1 was a racing car made to compete in the FIA GT1 class. Despite its name, there was very little amount of shared parts with the 911 at the time. The headlight housing and the tail lights were lifted from the 993, the doors looked the same as the ones on the 911 but were made from composites, and the dashboard was from the 911 as well. Underneath, the front end was apparently from the 993, but the rear end shared its components with the Porsche 963C.
Powered by a powerful 3.2L Twin Turbo water-cooled flat 6 making 600hp, which was the most powerful Porsche engine at the time, and the car weighing in at 2,100lbs, this race car was extremely successful, even with other GT1 class cars using V12s.
Multiple versions of the street-legal 911 GT1s were made to meet the GT1 homologation regulations, called the Straßenversion, which literally means “street version” in German.
