[Suzuka International Circuit Layout Evolution Pt. 2] This is the story of how Soichiro Honda commissioned one of the greatest race tracks ever made. After abandoning the original location, the team set out to create a world-class racetrack on the other side of town. Staff visited tracks in Europe to study their facilities, rules and even took home parts of the track to learn about asphalt paving. Meanwhile, John Hugenholtz was cooking up his magnum opus but not without some fine-tuning over the layout. Now if you thought 1 crossover was crazy, how about 3! Yes, 3! Hugenholtz’s first concept featured two additional track crossovers in the first sector before coming to a downhill hairpin. Drivers are then guided towards a few more turns before finding a primitive version of the famous S’s. The rest of the track remains very similar to the layout we have today except for whatever the hell this is and a ridiculously long back straight/curve. The circuit would become home to a number...
