Is this the best sounding GT4? Equipped with 4.4L Naturally Aspirated V8, the BMW Z4 GT3 ran from 2010 until its homologation ended in 2019. Famously used by goodsmileracing in the Hatsune Miku livery, the Z4 GT3 is notorious for its incredible exhaust sound from a high-revving V8. If you noticed, BMW never sold the Z4 equipped with a V8, however, the FIA Group GT3 regulations allow for pretty much any engine to be put in the racing version as long as it can maintain the BOP. Mercedes-AMG continues to use the old 6.3L NA V8 in the AMG GT3 and the GT3 Evo from the SLS AMG GT3, whereas the Aston Martin V8 Vantage uses the AMG derived 4.0L Twin Turbo V8.
You may wonder what happens to the GT3 and other factory racing cars with expired homologation. Well, they often get sold relatively inexpensively to privateers to be used on hill climbs or even at a smaller regional racing series with their own regulations.
