Meet the world’s fastest Prius: the Prius GT. For most people, the Toyota Prius is just the poster child for the green movement. Pretty standard traffic if you will. But 10 years ago, APR Racing decided it was the perfect platform for a GT300 race car. So with the help of Toyota, they created the Prius GT, a mid-engined GT3 esk car for the Super GT championship. Gone is the 1.8L inline 4 from the road car and in place, Toyota’s screaming 3.4L RV8 engine seen in IndyCar, Super Formula, and even in their Le Mans Prototype race cars. And yes it’s still a hybrid! The Prius GT retained the same motor as the road car albeit with a bigger lithium-ion battery, allowing it to easily pass standard GT3 cars on straightaways. The original mid-engined car was quite a success, racking up numerous podiums, pole positions, 3 wins, and even a second-place finish in the championship in 2015.
