A Florida real estate developer faces felony homicide charges related to a 2022 boat crash that killed a 17-year-old girl and left another disabled. Miami-Dade prosecutors allege that George Pino, 53, committed ‘vessel homicide,’ which could result in up to 15 years in prison if he is convicted. On September 4, 2022, Pino was driving a 29-foot Robalo boat with 13 passengers, including his daughter Cecilia, who was celebrating her birthday. Most of the passengers were her teenage friends. Pino reportedly struck a channel marker in the Upper Keys near Boca Chita Key, causing the boat to flip and throw everyone overboard. Nearly everyone sustained injuries, but 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez died, and 18-year-old Katerina Puig suffered severe injuries that most likely will permanently prevent her from living independently. Initially, Pino was charged with three misdemeanor counts of careless boating, to which he pleaded not guilty. #boat #florida #incident #birthdayparty #rip
