As part of da:ns focus – Connect Asia Now, we were thrilled to present three dance works from notable creative voices in Asia, each one embodying ritual, resistance and metamorphosis. sankaijuku returned to Singapore after eight years with TOTEM – Void and Height, the final work by late choreographer Ushio Amagatsu. eisajocson and roadsideninja exposed invisible care work in colonised regions in Magic Maids, using the broom and the act of sweeping as a metaphor, while joshdosher‘s PEARLS expanded on movement, body, gender and music as tools to imagine more diverse futures. The weekend also included da:ns LAB, an annual artist meeting and artist capability development programme produced by dancenucleus. This year, it was a coaching programme for five artists, norhaizard_adam and Hasyimah Harith (Singapore), in_the_clouddd (Hong Kong), li_yun_li (Taiwan) and jazzmango_ (India), mentored by dramaturg Lim How Ngean.
