On Halloween 2014, skepta dropped the video for “It Ain’t Safe,” a track that brought grime’s gritty energy to the world stage. Teaming up with A$AP Mob’s younglord, Skepta crafted a transatlantic anthem that resonated on both sides of the pond. Originally planning a road trip from New York to Atlanta, the two decided instead to create a track that captured the eerie tension of the streets. The beat felt ominous, almost haunting- perfect for Halloween.
Skepta’s production fused grime’s intensity with a sound reminiscent of a New York club, drawing clear inspiration from Three 6 Mafia’s hard-hitting style, where they used repeated hooks. Rather than filming in New York, Skepta kept it local, choosing his hometown of Tottenham’s Meridian Walk Estate.
