Ask Kate Mulqueen what position she plays. Until Saturday, Nov. 2, the Putnam Valley sophomore would have said defense. But Mulqueen, who had perhaps two very brief tastes of playing on the offensive end of the field in games already well decided this fall, not only was recruited to move up up-field for Saturday’s Section 1 Class C field hockey final, but became the star of the game after doing so. Filling in for a teammate who was away, Mulqueen deflected senior Izzy Walther's shot off a penalty corner into the net late in the first half, then scored unassisted again in the third quarter as the the top-seeded Tigers beat No. 2 Pleasantville 2-0 for the title in a game played at Lakeland High School.
