A decades-long conflict between a vocal subset of landowners and hunting dog owners has reached a boiling point.
Last week the Virginia Board of Wildlife Resources voted against adopting two proposed regulations for hunters who use dogs to hunt big game. One Department of Wildlife Resources reg would have mandated the use of GPS tracking collars for all deer and bear dogs. The other would have required hunters to make a “reasonable effort” to prevent their dogs from entering a landowner’s property after receiving notice that they’re not welcome. This is the latest development in a decades-long culture clash in Virginia, where deer hunting with hounds is a rich tradition.
