Today in Hip-Hop — Q-Tip released his second studio album, ‘The Renaissance.’
Nearly a decade after his solo debut album, ‘Amplified,’ qtiptheabstract returned on November 4, 2008 with a follow-up that instantly felt well worth the wait. On ‘The Renaissance,’ Q-Tip expanded on the sound that many of his fans were already fond of. Putting a specific emphasis on drum-led tracks, Q-Tip put a band together for the creation of the album to give the music a fuller sound.
‘The Renaissance’ features appearances from Raphael Saadiq, D’Angelo, Norah Jones, and Amanda Seales (fka Amanda Diva). As well as two tracks produced by J Dilla. The long-awaited album debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200—a great feat after almost a decade hiatus and a previously shelved album before it.
Sixteen years later and this album still sounds fresh. Which track is your favorite?
