How many times has someone told you to vote, asked you if you’re voting, or encouraged you to make a plan to vote in the past few weeks? I remember when we were working on some voter turnout stuff surrounding the 2020 (or maybe the 2018?) election, there was a study that stated the average person required 12—yes, 12!!!—different contact points before they actually took action. I’d imagine as our attention spans have weakened even more in recent years, it takes even more contact points to actually follow through and act. So, maybe this was your 12th contact point encouraging you to vote. Or your 69th contact point. Or your 420th contact point. Point is: It’s time to just go do the damn thing and exercise your right to vote. Personally, I feel more optimistic, engaged, and empowered by voting in an educated manner by doing my research and voting in line with my values all the way down the ballot.
