The first points of the set started off with the hitting errors on both sides. Digs by Thornton kept the Hawks at bay, then kills by Piper Adair and Sophie Koch propelled the Knights into a 10-all tie around 15 minutes into the third set. Later on, kills by Carlson and assists by Rosenblatt, and well-placed passes by sophomore Tiara Cooks allowed the Knights to build a 17-14 lead and forced the Hawks to call timeout. Miscommunication on both ends of the net led to unearned points for both teams. Blocks from Helen Rogers led to points for the Knights, but scrappy defense from the Hawks kept the game close. With the score 22-21 in favor of the Knights, both teams fought for an advantage during a long rally. Cooks served up the last few serves of the game and after the Hawks returned two Cooks’ serves out of bounds, the Knights emerged with a 25-22 victory in the set and a 2-1 lead in the game.
