Recently the Special Operations Group conducted a high-level training exercise on the Spirit of Tasmania. The exercise involved MICA paramedics from Ambulance Victoria and tested how both agencies would work together during a critical incident. Local police, the Victoria Police Air Wing and Water Police Marine Response Team also took part in the exercise. The scenario involved a multi-agency response to a mock fatal stabbing scenario, involving multiple offenders, three hours out from Geelong dock. General duties police dispatched to the port and quickly called upon specialist police for assistance. Soon after, the Special Operations Group was flown in by the Air Wing. One-by-one, operators fast roped from the chopper and methodically took control of the ship.
