Take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the universe ✨ This image of the "Cosmic Cliffs" in the Carina Nebula, a nursery for newborn stars about 7,600 light-years from Earth, was one of the very first released by our @NASAWebb telescope back in 2022. The mountains and valleys in this image are actually the boundaries of the nebula; within these massive clouds, young stars and protostars are giving off streams of gas and radiation. Webb's high-resolution, infrared instruments allow it to look through the cosmic dust, giving scientists newfound insight into how stars are formed—and showing the rest of us the joy and wonder that can be found across our galaxy. Image description: The image is divided between a rusty red cloudscape, forming a nebula along the bottom portion, and a comparatively clear upper portion. Speckled across both portions is a starfield, showing innumerable stars of many sizes. The upper portion of the image is blueish, and has wispy translucent cloud-like streaks ris...
