As someone on the sidelines capturing a race this time around, I learned a LOT capturing the NYC marathon this past weekend, but the main thing I took away is that sometimes when shooting a sport, you won’t get the most beautiful shot - but just capturing the MOMENT is what matters. this is the shot of anthonycrouchelli I managed to get at mile 23. It’s shaky, bumpy (I was running handheld), and at first glance - it’s terribly shot. A lot of the times, I’d be incredibly hard on myself for not making this look prettier, more stable or properly composed. However - capturing a close friend during a lifetime achievement and seeing the emotion on his face was more important to me than getting the perfect shot. sometimes the moment matters more than the shot 🎥 (psa this was done without impeding other runners safety and times, shot from the sidelines of the race course… if you’re ever covering any sporting event, make sure you know your limits and work within them!) •...
