Today in Hip-Hop — Jay-Z released his 10th studio album, ‘American Gangster.’
On November 6, 2007, Jay-Z dropped a concept album inspired by the Denzel Washington-led film of the same name. To coincide with the time period of the film, the album leans heavily on Soul and Funk samples from the 1970s while Jay-Z’s lyrics depict a timeless story of gangster lifestyle portrayed both in the film and the world around him.
‘American Gangster’ features appearances from Lil Wayne, Nas, and Beanie Sigel. As well as a narrated intro from Idris Elba, who also to starred in the film. This album quickly topped the Billboard 200 chart and became Jay-Z’s tenth number-one album.
