Lieke Leeggangers has been vital in Syracuse’s recent success, but her love for field hockey began at age 4 in the Netherlands. She began playing for fun, but as a 9-year-old, she took her game to a new level, winning regional championships every year until she turned 15.
Leeggangers then played in the highest-ranked league in the Netherlands, furthering her skills and growing her field hockey IQ before getting an opportunity to play for the Dutch National Team. Now, she stars for Syracuse, hoping to bring it a national championship.
“(Leeggangers) shows up in moments when we need her to show up and that’s what will continue to elevate the program,” SU head coach Lynn Farquhar said.
