Deputies with the Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling Canyon Country when they observed a male slumped over behind the wheel of a parked vehicle. A records check identified the vehicle to be stolen out of Lancaster the day prior. During investigation, deputies learned the owner of the vehicle had left his vehicle running while assisting a friend who was suffering a medical emergency at the time. While the victim was assisting his friend, the suspect entered the vehicle and drove away. The male was arrested for taking a vehicle without owner’s consent. He was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody at this time. As a reminder, if you are doing a quick run into a home or store, #GuardThatAuto and always take your keys with you. Never leave your vehicle running and always lock your doors.
