If you’re going to the Oregon Zoo to see the new American black bears, be sure to look up. Yesterday, visitors got to see one of the zoo’s two young American black bears, Timber and Thorn, climb high into a Douglas fir tree in search of new green growth to devour. Though it might seem a bit alarming at first, climbing is a natural behavior and a good sign that the bears are adapting to their habitat. Timber and Thorn arrived at the zoo earlier this year after they were found wandering in Alaska. They were abandoned and too young to care for themselves, so wildlife officials stepped in.
