Auburn hosts Louisiana-Monroe this weekend for the 12th matchup. While ULM may be an overlooked opponent, the Warhawks have a very interesting history. Louisiana-Monroe was originally founded in 1931 as Ouachita Parish Junior College. The school went through multiple name changes over the ensuing years before landing on Northeast Louisiana University in 1969. At the time, the athletic teams were called the Indians. In 1994, Northeast Louisiana made their debut at the FBS level. In just their second game at this level, the Indians traveled to Auburn. The Tigers would win 44-12. The two teams would play three straight seasons in 1994, 1995, and 1996. The Indians would return again in 2002, 2003, and 2004, but now under the University of Louisiana-Monroe name. In 2006, ULM announced they would change the Indian nickname following the NCAA's new restrictions and a committee unanimously voted to make the change.
