Today in Hip-Hop — A Tribe Called Quest released their third studio album, ‘Midnight Marauders.’ On November 9, 1993, atcq followed up 1991’s ‘The Low End Theory’ with a brand new album that truly solidified their range of sound. For their third effort, A Tribe Called Quest expanded on the sounds heard on their first two albums—blending jazz and funk samples with heavy hitting drums for a much grittier sound. The album featured singles like “Award Tour” with Dave of De La Soul, “Oh My God” with Busta Rhymes, and “Electric Relaxation”—which went on to be the theme song for ‘The Wayan Bros’ tv show two years later. The ‘Midnight Marauders’ cover famously features many faces of their peers behind the same tri-colored female silhouette featured on their previous cover.
