Full moon tonight!
Friday, Nov. 15, is a great opportunity to see our fourth supermoon in a row—and the last one of 2024. November's full moon is sometimes called the Beaver Moon: November is when beavers prepare for the winter by fortifying dams and stocking their food supply.
A supermoon takes place when the full moon is near perigee, its closest point to Earth: a distance of about 226,000 miles, or 364,000 kilometers. When the full moon is at its furthest distance from Earth—about 253,000 miles (407,000 km), its apogee—it's sometimes known as a micromoon.

Image description: A hazy, orange-red moon rises over a subway car, which is moving so quickly that it is slightly blurred in the image. The night sky is a uniform shade of very dark blue, but a few clouds can be seen passing in front of the bright moon.
