Portland’s new ranked-choice voting system for City Council took in hundreds of thousands of ballots that each ranked up to six candidates and spit out 12 winners. Voters approved the switch to a multi-winner ranked-choice system for electing City Council members in 2022. Under it, voters elect three council members to represent each of Portland’s four districts.
