Chapel Hill Town Council recently recognized town staff who have traveled to western North Carolina and aided in Hurricane Helene recovery and rebuilding. At Wednesday’s meeting, Chapel Hill mayor Jess Anderson celebrated town employees across various departments who “have gone the extra mile, and are still going the extra mile to assist with recovery efforts.” The mayor first highlighted the town’s emergency management team, who deployed ahead of the storm to help prepare shelters and worked at the state emergency operation center to coordinate a statewide response. Team members from the fire department deployed to Haywood and Mitchell counties to assist with swift water rescues, the search of collapsed structures, and other rescue services.
