The Recycling Club sifted through recycling again on Monday as a part of its routine after-school pickup. Club members check recycling bins that teachers set outside their doors after class, and they sort through them, separating the actual recycling from trash, with the recyclable materials ultimately ending up in the large recycling dumpster waiting to be picked up by the city.
Freshman Wren Vanderford, a member of the club, said she believes that they are making a positive impact on campus.
“It’s important to be aware of our environmental impact, especially in this day and age, so the reinstating of recycling at McCallum is really influential,” Vanderford said. “A lot of people are unaware of what to recycle, and in a school environment, a lot of paper assignments, plastic and drink cans go wasted in the trash bin when they could be recycled and reused. Being able to learn those skills at McCallum and bring them into households can make an impact.”
