MELODY FOR THE MOVIES: McCallum’s chamber choir was recorded last Thursday singing three songs by a movie producing company. The songs, “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Tea for Two” and “Anchors Away,” will be featured in a documentary about a singing group from Texas called Melody Maids who toured during World War II for Allied soldiers. The choir spent about two hours after school in the Fine Arts Building performing and recording their songs. The choir had learned of this opportunity on the first day of school but did not begin practicing their music until a little over a month ago. Sophomore member Lucinda Curtis, who has participated in choirs since sixth grade, thinks this was enough time to prepare, but there can always be improvement. “I think we did pretty well, but there were a few spots that weren’t perfect.” Curtis said. For Curtis individually, singing with the rest of the choir helps. “Singing with a group gives me confidence and a little cover if I mess up,” Curtis said. ...
