That final mile felt physically horrendous.
I looked at each spectator I passed, screaming in my head:
💭Help me! Tap in! Save me from this misery!
Luckily I had my emotional support genucan gel in hand. 🙃
It’s funny, it wasn’t until just recently I realized why carrying a UCAN gel brings me such comfort.
At some point in my growing years in the sport I used to write “I CAN” on my hand. A reminder that I can do hard things. I can do anything I set my mind to. I can be the person I want to be.
My mother chellibates, took notice that this helped me immensely. After a while, she started writing “U CAN” on her hand in solidarity. She would be at all of my races, flashing me her hand and cheering me on until her voice grew hoarse. 🐻
Though my father wasn’t able to be at all my races growing up, he would leave a note on the counter beforehand that read: “Run Hard. Have Fun.”
