✨🪰✨ Will the Similar Firefly spark again?
This little firefly has been lost to science for 41 years and was last seen in 1983. Known for their unique amber-colored flashes, males use this light show to attract females watching from below—a dazzling courtship that is being interrupted by the rise of light pollution.
rewild and partners are working to rediscover this species, which could unlock critical insights about its habitat, ecology, and the threats it faces. Historically spotted across the eastern United States, researchers are hopeful that these glowing symbols of summer can still be found.
The Similar Firefly is one of Re:wild's most wanted lost species, which are supported by colossal Foundation.
