This weekend marks the 88th meeting between Auburn and Alabama on the gridiron. The two teams first faced off in 1893 with the Tigers pulling out the 32-22 victory. They would play seven more times by 1907 before taking a 41-year break from competitive meetings. Games would finally resume in 1948 and the two in-state rivals have faced off every year since.
The earliest games bounced around between Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery before settling in the Iron City in 1904. Every game from then would be held at the historic Legion Field until Auburn brought the game home to campus for the first time in 1989. Alabama would continue to host their home games against the Tigers in Birmingham until the series returned to Tuscaloosa in 2000 for the first time since 1901.
