Namibians will vote in national elections on Wednesday, November 27, and for communities in the Kavango regions, the future of their environment, water and wildlife could depend on the results. You can help fight to protect the Okavango River Basin from oil drilling. Canada-based oil and gas company ReconAfrica has been exploring for oil in Namibia’s Kavango regions since 2021. Their exploratory oil wells were drilled without consulting local communities and without obtaining the proper permits—putting people and wildlife at risk. Join save_the_okavango and local leaders in asking the Namibian government to revoke ReconAfrica’s drilling permit to help protect these communities and this vital ecosystem.
