Basketball is a game of percentages, and many players overlook the importance of self-assessment. Socrates said, “Know thyself,” and that applies here. It took me a long time to realize I made more shots going right than going left. It’s not that I couldn’t make shots going left, but my percentages were lower. Once I understood that, I naturally stopped taking those shots—not because I couldn’t make them, but because I knew my numbers.
My sophomore year in college, I shot 42% from three. The following year as a junior, I dropped to 29%—the worst percentage of my career. It wasn’t because I became a worse shooter in 12 months. A big factor was shot selection.
I want YOU to learn from my experience. Take a hard look at the type of shots you’re taking. Know your percentages, make better decisions, and not only will you score more—you’ll help your team win.
