Dolores Doman started running in her 40s with the Super Runners store in Huntington, New York. That’s where she met the owner Gary Muhrcke, who won the first New York City Marathon in 1970. He encouraged her to join NYRR and run races in Central Park. “Right away I was inspired by the level of competition, the beauty of Central Park, and how well managed the races were. The volunteers and [staff] are so helpful and respectful of each runner.” In her late 50s, Dolores ran many NYRR races, including 6️⃣ New York City Marathons, placing competitively in her age group and even getting nominated for an age group award.
