🦃 Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for what we have, including family, friends, health, and food. For Lighthouse keepers and their families, growing and hunting for food was common practice. In 1934, to save money after his third daughter was born, Keeper David Swain bought a Browning automatic gun to provide food for his family. Swain had a money-saving method where he would wait to try taking out two turkeys with one shot to save on ammunition. His eldest daughter, Jacqueline Swain Ponce, fondly remembered the variety of game her father brought home, including quail, turtle dove, marsh hens, squirrel, duck, and turkey.
