✌️🐦 Thanks to a Re:wild associate, new surveys along the Guyana–Brazil border have revealed a population stronghold for two threatened songbird species. 🟢 Brian O’Shea is an ornithologist specializing in birds of northeastern South America, and is a Re:wild associate - a program that cultivates and supports the next generation of conservation leaders throughout their careers. Brian and local conservationists from srcs.rupununi surveyed over 130 miles of riverbanks, confirming new populations of both the Hoary-throated Spinetail and the Rio Branco Antbird on Guyana’s Takutu and Ireng Rivers. Both species were locally abundant on both sides of the international border between Guyana and Brazil. These new findings signal this region has the potential to safeguard these species if effective conservation measures are implemented.
