Gilcrease Museum is part of a nationwide effort to return Native American ancestral remains and cultural items to tribes, who never consented to these being removed in the first place. As part of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, Gilcrease's repatriation process has resulted in more than 36,000 cultural items being returned to their original Indigenous owners. Now, Gilcrease is working with about 60 tribes nationwide to return more ancestral remains and cultural objects.
