As we reflect on the last day of November, we wanted to take a moment to recognize that November is Black Catholic History Month—a time to celebrate the profound contributions of Black Catholics to the Church and to recognize the unique cultural heritage that shapes their faith journey.
From early saints like St. Martin de Porres to the modern-day witness of Sister Thea Bowman, Black Catholics have courageously upheld faith, justice, and hope in the face of adversity.
To celebrate the month, St. Francis had the distinct honor of hearing from Dr. Chiquita Tuttle, Coordinator of the Oakland Diocese’s African American Pastoral Center (AAPC).
Let us honor the stories of Black Catholics, pray in solidarity, and reflect on the ongoing work toward inclusion and equity within our Church.
