Brilliant. ✨
This image of the SpaceX Dragon Freedom spacecraft was captured from inside the International Space Station (ISS) on Oct. 7, 2024. In the background, a vibrant aurora moves through Earth’s atmosphere while the station orbited 273 miles (439 km) above the Indian Ocean.
#Artemis astronauts will need to live and work in deep space and traverse the lunar surface during days- or weeks-long expeditions. Ongoing scientific investigations and technology demonstrations on the ISS can help create solutions to many of the hurdles associated with missions to the Moon and Mars.
Image description: This viewpoint of Earth is looking out from an oval-shaped window. The SpaceX Dragon Freedom spacecraft can be glimpsed in the lower left portion of the window. The rest of the window is consumed with the convex surface of the Earth. The surface of the Earth is glowing with bright green auroras. The auroras are shooting magenta-colored light into the blackness of space.
