The Shield staff would like to thank @voodoodoughnut on Burnet Road for donating (or it donutting?) the primary ingredient to the staff’s eighth-period celebration of its recent @nationalstudentpress awards announced at the fall @journalismeducation/NSPA fall national journalism convention in Philly. For the first time in school history, the Shield won back-to-back Newspaper Pacemaker Awards. Prior to this year, the Shield earned the prestigious Newspaper Pacemaker Award in 2004, 2011 and 2023. The staff earned Online Pacemaker Awards in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023. In Philadelphia, the staff also captured eight individual awards: two first place awards, a second place, a third place, a fifth place and three honorable mentions.
