Charlotte Ellis starts Wednesday as St. Helens High School’s acting principal, taking the helm after its former principal, a choir teacher and retired teacher were arrested in the past month in connection with a sexual misconduct investigation at the school. Ellis, 51, last served as director of teaching and learning in Tillamook School District No. 9. She previously was executive director of school leadership and accountability for the Yakima School District in Washington and also worked as an assistant principal at Pasco High School for just over seven years and as principal at Pasco’s Stevens Middle School. She pledged to put “students first,” as she starts to lead the high school.
