Two weeks in space. Would you go? #OTD in 1965 Gemini VII launched on what would be the longest crewed spaceflight in U.S. history until 1973. Astronauts James Lovell and Frank Borman spent almost 14 days in space. The Gemini program was designed as a bridge between the Mercury and Apollo programs, primarily to test equipment and mission procedures in Earth orbit and to train astronauts and ground crews for future Apollo missions. Image description: Astronaut James Lovell prepares to board the Gemini VII spacecraft, not long before launch. He is wearing the special G5C spacesuit, which had a zippered hood with a visor instead of a solid helmet. He is walking up a red-colored ramp and is facing to the left of the image. He is being trailed by two men wearing white uniforms and holding tanks. Credit: NASA #Gemini #GeminiVII #Artemis #NASAHistory #Apollo #Artemis #Mercury #Astronauts #Launch #TravelRequired
