Traditional Irish music and festive gusto filled The Starry Plough Pub on Monday night as lamps bathed the dance floor with a warm yellow light. Amid it all, first-time attendee Julio Martinez tapped his feet to the melody of the flute, spinning his way through the Haymakers’ Jig. To Martinez, the beauty of the event lay in the social nature of Ceílí, the traditional Irish dance performed at the pub every Monday. Dancers came together on the floor, locking arms and swinging each other around, celebrating the settled and sweet chaos that is Ceílí. “(The dancing) was fun. Definitely out of my comfort zone, but it’s great to try new things,” Martinez said. “The people here are super nice; everyone’s accepting of each other.” Read more through the link in bio. ✍️: Paarth Mishra 📸: Chloe Dowling | chloe.dee . . . #ucberkeley #dailycal #irishdancing #berkeleycity
