“Mom! Mom! Mom!” Sound familiar? In our house, communication looks a little different—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Here’s how my kids talk to me as their Deaf/Hard of Hearing mom:
👉 Tap me to get my attention.
👉 Face me to give visual cues.
👉 Have me get at their level.
👉 Use ASL (we’re learning together!).
👉 Wave to get my attention.
👉 Slow down when speaking.
These little adjustments go a long way in creating meaningful connections—and they’ve taught my kids to be mindful, patient, and empathetic communicators. It’s not always perfect, but we’re learning and growing together every day.
💡 How do your kids or loved ones adapt to connect with you? Share your experiences in the comments—I’d love to hear!
