Meet the newest squad to take on the Search and Rescue commercial diver training course. A gruelling five-week course that puts you through fighting off jellyfish and eels in the Yarra River, to finding weapons, phones and other objects in impossible visibility.
It’s a job not for the fainthearted. Especially going into summer with 54 drowning deaths occurring between July 1st 2023 and June 30th of this year.
If you are planning on spending your time around water this summer, remember:
🏊♀️Swim (with a buddy) between the flags – – Always swim with someone else and make sure people know where you are.
🏊♀️Know the conditions – Check the weather and water conditions before you go.
🏊♀️Learn how to recognise rips and how to swim out of them if you get stuck.
🏊♀️Avoid alcohol and drugs – Alcohol and drugs impairs your decision-making skills.
🏊♀️Dress appropriately – suncream, sunglasses, hat.
🏊♀️Never leave children unsupervised.
