Nestled between the Li Ka Shing Center and campus restaurant Brown’s, a quaint community garden gives faculty, staff, students and retirees an opportunity for respite and a moment outside. Primarily growing herbs and native Californian plants, the community garden is managed and promoted by the University Health Service’s Be Well at Work Faculty/Staff Health Programs. It aims to encourage mindfulness and outdoor recreation for faculty and staff. The garden started in the summer of 2019, and relies on the community to thrive. Typically a small group, volunteers spend most of their time weeding, pruning and occasionally harvesting for the Berkeley staff food pantry during a monthly work session. Depending on the season, volunteers may also sow new varieties of herbs.
