Happy Masters week to all who celebrate. I, for one, will celebrate by remembering the time I (literally) won the lottery and got to play a round at Augusta National.
Quick backstory. I got invited to Augusta by a friend who had a spare press credential. Members of the press can enter a lottery to play the course on the Monday after The Masters. But here’s the thing – a lot of people in the press don’t even bother to enter the lottery, because their chances of winning are so slim. Maybe it’s just my naive optimism, but I entered… and my name was the first one selected.
I still can’t believe it.
But what I always believe is that a big part of loving golf is embracing the luck – the good and the bad. It’s two sides of the same coin. You’ll never get “lucky” unless you let go of your need to control everything and just… open yourself to the whims of the universe.
